Do you pay with a credit card daily for the points?

bwak.money is envelope budgeting for people who pay off their credit cards every month. You set aside money for groceries, gas, and bills, so when the statement comes, the money to pay it is already there.

Demo of the bwak.money Budget page on a phone. A $42.18 Visa charge is added to Weekly Spend. Weekly Spend goes down by $42.18 and the Visa Payoff envelope goes up by $42.18, so it matches the Visa balance: the money for the bill is already set aside.

Why I built it

I'm a retired technologist raising chickens on a farm in Tennessee. When I retired, my income turned into one fixed deposit a month. Twice in the first two months I watched our checking account hit zero before the next deposit landed. So I started putting everything on a credit card and paying it off once a month, which bought me time and earned me points.

The whiteboard we used to track expenses was clunky and lasted about a day before we stopped updating it. So I built bwak.money to track our spending while using a credit card that we pay off monthly. Bwak is what chickens say.

How it works

  1. Each month you allocate your dollars to the spending envelopes.
  2. Charge it. Groceries, gas, the vet. Log the transaction into your phone with + Add, or import a transaction file you download from your bank.
  3. The money moves. When you charge it, you tell bwak.money what envelope the expense belongs to and the amount is added to your card's payoff envelope.
  4. The money's already there. When the statement comes, the payoff envelope already holds what you owe. Pay it and move on.
No bank connection. Ever.

You never hand over a bank login. Log purchases yourself or import a statement file.

What "early" means

I'm inviting a few households at a time and setting each one up personally. It's free while it's early, and early households get a founding-member price when bwak.money launches. In return, I'll ask what's working and what isn't.
